A Journey of Miracles, Growth, and Joy
Today, we celebrate Logan turning 8—eight incredible years of defying the odds, overcoming challenges, and bringing so much light into our lives. Every year, his birthday reminds me of how far he’s come, but this past year has been truly extraordinary. Logan has made amazing progress that fills my heart with pride and gratitude, and I can’t wait to share some of the incredible milestones he’s reached.
Feeding Therapy: From 50% to 100% By Mouth
This year, Logan achieved something we hoped would happen. After spending almost 3 months in Atlanta undergoing intensive feeding therapy at the Marcus Autism Center, he came home eating 50% by mouth. That alone was a huge victory—one we were overjoyed about. But in true Logan fashion, he didn’t stop there. For the past two months, Logan has been eating 100% by mouth! Let me say that again: 100%! He no longer relies on his feeding tube. While purees are still his main go-to, he’s also started exploring new foods like fruits,
veggies, cheese sticks, and even cupcakes. Watching him take a bite of something new with curiosity and confidence is a joy I can’t quite put into words. Every meal feels like a celebration, and every step forward is a reminder of his determination and strength.
Hugs That Speak Volumes
If you know Logan, you know how sweet and loving he is. This year, he added a new layer to that love—he’s started hugging with his arms. For most people, hugs are second nature, but for Logan, this was a huge milestone. Each hug he gives is intentional, filled with love, and completely heart-melting. It’s a simple thing, but it’s one of the biggest joys in my life
right now.
Finding His Voice
Logan’s language development has come so far this year, and interestingly, it’s a side effect of eating by mouth—a side effect I’ll happily take any day!
With every new word he speaks, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride. His words are thoughtful and meaningful, a true testament to his hard work
and resilience. Hearing his little voice express his thoughts and feelings—it’s everything I could have hoped for and more.
Behavioral Progress
We’ve seen some incredible improvements in Logan’s behaviors this year, and ABA therapy has been a major factor in that progress. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy focused on understanding and improving behaviors by reinforcing positive actions and reducing those that may be challenging. It’s widely used to support individuals with autism and other developmental needs, helping them develop skills in communication, daily living, and emotional regulation.
I’ll be honest—ABA can be controversial. It’s often misunderstood, and the process can feel intense or even overwhelming at times. But like many therapies, you have to trust the journey to see the positive outcomes. For Logan, it’s been a complete game changer. With the guidance of his ABA team, he’s learned better ways to communicate his needs, manage his emotions, and interact with the world around him.
Some of the challenges that used to feel so overwhelming have started to ease up, giving Logan the space to focus on learning, exploring, and just being a happy, curious little boy. With the consistency, structure, and love that ABA provides, Logan has shown us just how capable and determined he truly is. The changes in his daily life—and ours—are nothing short of amazing.
A Milestone Moment: Logan’s Final MRI
This January, Logan will have his final MRI—a moment that’s both emotional and filled with gratitude. After years of regular scans to keep an eye on things, his doctors feel there’s no need to monitor anymore. That decision says so much about how far Logan has come and how strong he is today.
MRI days have always been a rollercoaster of emotions—anxiety, hope, and everything in between. But every single clear scan has been a reminder of Logan’s strength and resilience. He’s not just a cancer survivor; he’s a warrior who has faced every challenge head-on and come out stronger. This final scan will close one chapter of his journey and open another. It’s a huge milestone, and while I’ll always carry those scan day nerves with me, I’m overwhelmed with pride at how far Logan has come. He’s not just surviving—he’s thriving—and I couldn’t be more grateful for the journey that’s brought us to this point. This January, we’ll celebrate Logan’s progress and look forward to the amazing things still to come.
Logan’s Joyful World
Logan is still Logan—the boy whose face lights up at the sound of music, who finds pure magic in every bubble he chases, who races his toy cars with the intensity of a professional driver, and who absolutely can’t resist the excitement of a good balloon. These simple joys have always been a part of who he is, and they’re what make him so uniquely Logan. His happiness is infectious, and his unstoppable spirit is a constant reminder to find joy in the little things.
But this year, there’s something deeper happening. Logan isn’t just enjoying the world around him; he’s truly connecting with it in new and exciting ways. He’s growing, learning, and finding his place in ways that continue to amaze me. Whether it’s through his hugs, his words, or his newfound independence, Logan is showing us more of himself every day.
Watching him blossom into this vibrant, curious, and loving little boy has been the greatest privilege of my life. He has a way of teaching everyone around him to slow down, to appreciate the beauty in the small moments, and to celebrate every step forward.
It Takes a Village
We didn’t get here alone, and we never could have. Logan’s progress is a testament to the incredible team of people who have surrounded him with love and support throughout his journey. From his dedicated therapists and teachers to our family, friends, and countless supporters, it truly takes a village.
Every person who has played a role in Logan’s life—whether it’s helping him learn a new skill, cheering him on during tough moments, or simply being there to love him unconditionally—has made a difference. To all of you who have stood by us, encouraged us, and celebrated every milestone alongside us: thank you. Your kindness, patience, and belief in Logan have lifted us through the hardest days and made the joyful ones even sweeter. We are endlessly grateful for you.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate Logan’s 8th birthday, I can’t help but think about what the future holds. If this past year has taught me anything, it’s that there’s no limit to what Logan can achieve. The boy who was once given little chance of surviving—let alone eating, walking, or talking—has proven time and time again that he’s unstoppable.
Logan, you are our miracle, our fighter, and the brightest light in our lives. Your strength, determination, and joyful spirit inspire us every single day. We love you more than words could ever say, and we are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished.
Happy 8th birthday Bubba!
Here’s to another year of growth, adventure, and, of course, more hugs,
laughter, and balloons.
